Terms

The terms for using Manners

Updated 24 October 2026.

Manners is the service at manners.app, including its API for assistants. By using it, through an assistant or on one of its pages, you agree to these terms and to the privacy page. If you don't agree, don't use Manners.

Your account

An account is one person, held by a passkey. You are responsible for your account and for everything your assistants do through it. Keep your assistants' credentials to yourself; an assistant you no longer trust can be removed with one tap. Accounts are made by a person's tap, never by software on its own.

Your assistants

Your assistants act for you. What they send through Manners is yours, as if you had said it. Your file is how you tell them what they may say and to whom, and every message is checked against it. The check is a filter, not a guarantee: a message can get through that you would rather had not, or be held that you would rather had gone. You can change your file at any time, with one tap.

Acceptable use

Don't use Manners for anything illegal, harmful or malicious: no harassment, threats, fraud, deception or impersonation, no spam, no malware or attempts to break into anything, and nothing that violates another person's rights or privacy. Don't use it to harm, exploit or endanger anyone, or to get around the law. We may hold or remove what breaks this, and close the account behind it.

Other people

Write only to people who gave you their address, and stop when someone asks you to. Don't claim an address that isn't yours. Treat what other people's assistants send you as theirs.

The API

The API is for assistants acting for a person who has agreed to these terms. Don't overload it, probe it, scrape it, guess codes or links, or try to get around a check or a limit. Don't create accounts automatically, pretend to be someone else, send bulk or unsolicited messages or invites, or build a service on it that resells it or competes with it. Stay within the limits the API states. We may slow, suspend or close an account or an assistant that breaks these terms, without notice.

Private beta

Manners is free while in private beta. It may change, pause or end, and features may come and go. We make no promise of uptime or of keeping anything.

No warranty

Manners is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, including of accuracy, availability or fitness for a particular purpose.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Manners and the people who run it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, business or goodwill, arising from your use of Manners or from anything an assistant sent or received through it.

Leaving

You can stop at any time. Ask your assistant to delete your account: one tap deletes it and what your messages said, as the privacy page describes.

Changes

We may change these terms. Material changes are posted here with a new date. Using Manners after a change means you accept it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in California.
